All cases pending with SJC to be decided by July end: CJ
LAHORE: Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday remarked that all pending complaints with Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) against judges of superior courts would be disposed of by the end of July.
He also hinted at consulting his fellow judges on the issue of cut in salary of superior court judges.
The two-member SC bench was hearing a petition of Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree seeking cut in judges’ salaries at SC’s Lahore Registry. Justice Ijazul Ahsan was the other judge on the bench.
He said SC judges enjoyed big salaries and perks per month. He said that the country was burdened under foreign loans but salaries/ perks of public office-holders, judges and civil servants had been increased extraordinarily by different governments.
Addressing the lawyer, the CJP observed that an SC judge enjoyed salary and perks of Rs50,000 per day; therefore, he asked his fellow judges to discharge their obligations with zeal and fervour. He hinted that he would consult his fellow judges on the issue of reduction in salary.
Barrister Jafree also asked the court to order the SJC to conduct proceedings against Lahore High Court judge Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan in open. To it, Justice Ijazul Ahsam said the SC had decided the issue.
At this point, the CJP remarked that all pending complaints with the SJC would be decided till end of July.
