JAMRUD: The Lady Health Workers (LHWs) on Monday blocked Pak-Afghan Highway at Bab-e-Khyber to demand salaries withheld for the last 11 months. The demonstrators were carrying placards inscribed with slogans against the Fata Secretariat & Health Department of Khyber Agency. The LHWs said they had been working under unfavourable circumstances but the departments had failed to pay them salaries for the last 11 months. They deplored that their kids were starving for non-payment of salaries. The LHWs demanded wages for having worked during anti-polio campaigns. The traffic gridlock made local elders to intervene. The LHWs ended the protest and re-opened road for traffic after talks with local elders and political administration officials.
