Robbers among eight suspects arrested by Rangers

The Sindh Rangers have arrested eight suspects involved in incidents of street crime, robberies and drug peddling during raids in various parts of the city on Monday, a statement said on Monday.

The statement said two Lyari gangsters were arrested during a raid in the jurisdiction of Kalakot Police Station. The two were identified as Mujeebullah and Rashi. According to the paramilitary force, the suspects were associated with Lyari gang war’s Sajid and Majid group and involved in the drug business.

In action taken in Sharifabad, Arambagh, Soldier Bazaar and Brigade, soldiers arrested five men over charges of being involved in incidents of street crime and robberies. The suspects were identified as Siddique, Muhammad Kashif alias Dildar, Shona Khan, Muhammad Ehtasham and Muhammad Salman-ur Rehman.

Another suspect involved in business of drug-selling was arrested during a raid in the jurisdiction of Clifton Police Station. He was identified as Zahid Hussain alias Raja. A cache of arms and ammunition was said to have been seized from the possession of held suspects, who were handed over to police for legal action against them.

The paramilitary force has been spearheading an operation since September 2013 to curb heinous crimes, including target killings, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and land grabbing. On May 15, 12 suspects, including a political party’s activist, were rounded up by law-enforcement agencies.

According to a spokesperson for the Rangers, a raid was conducted in Kalri from where they arrested Ashfaq Ahmed alias Lal. Ashfaq is said to be associated with the MQM-London and involved in robberies. The Rangers arrested another suspect from Kalri identified as Kashif alias Kashu. He was said to be associated with the Lyari Gang War’s Baba Ladla group and involved in running a drug den. Soldiers conducted raids in Baldia and New Karachi Industrial Area and arrested Salahuddin alias Aubi and Mohammad Rizwan Khan alias Mani. The suspects were said to be involved in street crimes.

Four more suspects were rounded up from Kalakot and Dhabeji for being involved in selling narcotics and Gutka. They were identified as Mohammad Fahim, Ali Yousuf, Abdul Rehman alias Faqeer and Ajaz

The District West police arrested four street criminals while they were trying to escape after looting citizens. According District West SSP Omer Shahid Hamid, Naveed Khan told police that he was on his way near Kaneez Fatima Society in Surjani Town when two armed bandits snatched Rs2,750 in cash and a copy of his ID card and fled.

Hamid said a patrolling team arrived at the site and on Naveed’s information followed the criminals. Police soon caught Ismail and Amir Javed, and recovered two TT pistols and the snatched items. Another such arrest took place in Saeedabad police’s limits when Shafaqat Ali reported to the police that he was on his way when four bandits held him up and snatched Rs3,200 along with his CNIC copy. A patrolling mobile of Saeedabad police followed the suspects and. Arrested Sikandar Saif alias Jibran and Noorul Islam alias Nakoo.
