Whites clinch Friends of Golf title

LAHORE: Team White was victorious in the Friends of Golf Match Play Contest that concluded here on Sunday.

In the contest for supremacy in the 18 holes Royal Palm Friends of Golf Match Play Contest held at the Royal Palm Golf Course yesterday, the 20-member Whites Team captained by Imran Mairaj prevailed over the 20 member Blue Team captained by Irfan Raja. Such team events represent a matter of esteem for each participant and it is only through an admirable application of golfing skills that success can be achieved. And the Team White inspired by Imran Mairaj came up with the required tenacity to overcome the challenging fierceness of the Team Blues and compile 5. 5 points in the team matches and 12. 5 points in the Individual matches and with a total tally of 17. 5 points had the honor of achieving victory in this Friends of Golf Match Play contest and in the process took home the glittering trophy.

Through excellence in shot making the team pairs of the Team White who compiled vital points for their team were Asad Agha and Imran Mairaj, Dr Nasrullah and Max Babri, Dr Mohsen and Ale Imran, Ahsan Anwar and Anjum Atta Sheikh. While these pairs beat their adversaries outright and contributed one point each to the overall tally of 17. 5 points, their pairings of Saeed ul Hassan and Abid Aziz, Col Jameel and Imran F. Mian and M. Pervaiz and M. Saeed contributed half a point each as they merely managed to draw their matches against their Team Blue opponents. As regards the individual duels, those who stood out for Team White were Agha Asad, Imran Mairaj, Saeed ul Haseeb, Shoaib Shams, Dr Nasruallah, Max Babri, Dr Mohsen, Ale Imran, Anjum Atta Sheikh, Nadeem Malik, and Salman Mansoor. By avoiding errors and maintaining a steady flow of accurate hitting they ensured victory and honors for their team.

Performers for Team Blue were Sohail Chaudry, Hussain Hamid, Hammad Baig, Zahid Hussain and Ali Zahidi.At the conclusion of the championship Abdullah Sharif, Captain Golf of Royal Palm, gave away the prizes.
