CNS Amateur Golf Cup begins today

ISLAMABAD: The three-day Chief of the Naval Staff Amateur Golf Cup begins at the Margalla Greens Golf Club on Friday (today) with the organisers expecting over 300 entries in four categories.

Commodore Sheikh Imran Nasir unveiled the salient features of the tournament at the venue on Thursday.“The tournament that began 11 years ago is now an annual feature of the golfing calendar. We have come a long way since 2007. The best amateurs from around the country eagerly wait to participate in the event. This time we are expecting over 300 entries,” he said.

Besides the amateur net, amateur gross, senior net and gross, ladies and juniors will also be seen in action. “The stage is set to hold the event at one of the most picturesque courses around. Besides the competition for the main trophy, seniors, juniors and ladies will also be seen in action in the next three days.”

The organisers have divided the amateur net competition into two categories. Top golfers having handicap from scratch to seven will compete separately from those having handicap from seven to 12. However, the ultimate winner will be the one who scores the best net following 54 holes.

Besides the main trophy, prizes will also be distributed amongst best amateur gross winner, ladies, seniors and juniors.Golfers having handicap of 18 and below are eligible to compete in the seniors’ event. The junior 18-hole match will see Under-16 golfers with handicap of 24 and below flexing their muscles.Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi will be the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony on Sunday.
