ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday extended the deadline for voter registration and modification of voter lists till April 30, which was to end on April 24.
“To facilitate the general public, the last date for filing of claims, objections and applications for correction at all display centres established across Pakistan is hereby extended up to April 30, 2018. As per the Elections Act, 2017, the electoral rolls shall be deemed to be frozen on cut-off date i.e. April 30,” an order, issued by the Election Commission said.
The order, carrying signatures of the chief election commissioner and four members of the Election Commission, said that however, the revising authorities shall decide claims, objections and applications for corrections till May 7.
A statement issued by the Election Commission’s Media Wing said that over 0.6million persons checked their details and those of their family members and till now, more than 0.2million forms were submitted at display centres for necessary action.
Moreover, 2.8 million people sent short text messages on the Election Commission’s ‘8300’ number to check the related details.
