‘How come Adiala staff knows someone is coming’

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif here on Wednesday said that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had not set the six-month time for adjudication of corruption references but for awarding sentence to him. He expressed these views while talking to the media inside and outside the Accountability Court.

To a question about some news that preparations had been started in the Adiala Jail to welcome some special guest, Nawaz Sharif asked how the jail authorities came to know that someone is coming.

Responding to another question about turncoats, Nawaz Sharif said that the only people who are accompanying him are committed and they are not turncoats. At this, Maryam Nawaz intruded and said that they are accompanying those persons who belong to Muslim League generation after generation.

To a question about Ch Nisar Ali Khan, Nawaz Sharif said that the nation knows about it but later outside the court he said that he hasn’t said anything about Ch Nisar.

About his previous statement to render the NAB laws ineffective during the caretaker government, Nawaz Sharif said that he has talked to the prime minister in this regard and all he wants that the candidates could contest general elections without being pressurised by the NAB.

He lauded Shahbaz Sharif for the development work he did in south Punjab and said that Shahbaz Sharif has done really good work there regarding construction of schools, colleges, universities, road network, transportation and provision of water.

To a question that Rs8,000 being received from students in Lodhran on account of university campus building charges, Nawaz Sharif said that he has no knowledge about it. Outside the accountability court, Nawaz Sharif said that his lawyers had uncovered the truth about the bias of JIT members.

“During the JIT investigation, the facts favouring us were concealed in a clever manner and now all the ill-woven narrative has collapsed,” he said and added Wajid Zia has given them certificate of innocence. Zia also said that the JIT got no proof of salary from the Capital FZE and it is the same premise at which the Supreme Court disqualified him being the prime minister of Pakistan.

“I was saying from the first day that these are fraudulent cases and filed just to take revenge on me for the only reason that I don’t bow to anyone accept Allah,” Nawaz Sharif said. “Millions of people love me and the reason they don’t tolerate me. For the JIT, the six diamonds that were discovered by the SC, the three out of them have connections with our worst political opponents. Their wives and relatives are active members of the PTI. Despite the fact that my case was not of terrorism, two members from ISI and MI were included in the JIT,” Nawaz said.

“They were not stakeholders in this case, why they were included in the JIT when I did nothing against the country?” Nawaz questioned. A law firm Quist was hired in the UK that was heavily paid from the national exchequer. “My counsel Khawaja Haris questioned about the relation between the JIT head and the Quist solicitor who is his first cousin. About the fee, Wajid Zia said that it is privileged information.”

Addressing Wajid Zia, Nawaz Sharif said that he had to reply because the fee that was paid not his own money but it was public money and the nation would hold him accountable. Maryam Nawaz said that the politicians who could not be defeated politically were tried to be defeated with court cases.
