ISLAMABAD: Amid loud reservations expressed by almost all political parties on the draft delimitation of constituencies, quite surprisingly, the Election Commission of Pakistan has so far received just 12 objections-eleven from Punjab and one from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Election Commission has fixed April 3 as the last date for filing of objections.

The electoral body has hitherto included 8.1 million persons in the draft voter lists, who obtained CNICs from 2013 onwards, taking the total number of voters to over 104 million.

In order to ensuring transparency and error-free voter lists, the Election Commission has decided to put on display draft voter lists across Pakistan from March 26 at as many as 14487 display centres. These will be open to public viewing, correction, addition and deletion.

In Punjab, 7928 display centres will be established, 2585 in Sindh, 2545 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 1429 in Balochistan. In a message to the nation, Chief Election Commissioner Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan has said that it was imperative for young men and women to get them registered as voters and take part in democratic process for the nation-building.

He emphasised that just before the 2018 general election, it was a golden opportunity for Pakistanis to get themselves registered as voters.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has called 15th meeting of the planning committee on March 27. The meeting will be chaired by Secretary of the Election Commission, Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad.

A total of 20 items have been listed on the agenda for deliberations.

The forum will discuss the budget, purchase of electoral machinery and watermark print of ballot paper, construction of federal election academy, purchase of vehicles and storage at the division level will be discussed.

The committee will also deliberate upon constructing election commission’s offices and buying land for it. Information about polling stations and polling officers for election 2018 will be shared with the committee. The meeting will discuss the circle rate and electoral lists.

It will also have an overview of the result management system and result transmission system.
