Raiwind blast death toll rises to 11

LAHORE: The death toll in Raiwind suicidal attack rose to 11 as one more policemen expired in a local hospital on Friday.

The martyred constable was identified as Sabar. factory fire: A man died and five other people sustained injuries when a fire broke out in a shoe factory in the Batapur area on Friday morning.

The fire broke out in the shoe factory when the workers were doing their work. A watchman of the factory, identified as Lateef, 55, died and five other people had multiple fractures as they jumped off the building to save their lives. Rescue teams removed the body and the injured to a nearby hospital.

The cause of the fire was yet to be unknown, a rescue worker told. Five vehicles of the fire brigade participated in the rescue operation and extinguished fire after hectic efforts. The firefighters had to breach the walls of the neighbours of the factory to douse the flames.

Two die: A 12-year-old boy and an elderly man were killed by a speeding tractor-trolley in the Kahna area on Friday. The victims were identified as Faheem and Mkhtar. Police have arrested the accused driver, identified as Akhtar.

ASF passing-ouT: An impressive passing-out parade of Airport Security Force's new recruits was held at Haj Terminal at the Lahore airport. ASF Director General Major Abbas Haidar and the CSOs of all airports were also present. Awards were distributed among the officers and recruits who showed best performance during the training. The ASF DG said the force was prepared to combat any illegal act. He said a terrorist attack was foiled by ASF on June 8, 2014. Strict security measurements were also made on the occasion.

road accidents: Total 917 road accidents were reported to the Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service/Rescue 1122 from all districts of the province during the last 24 hours.

Five people were killed and 634 badly injured in the road accidents. The injured were removed to hospitals. However, some 424 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were given first aid by the emergency medical teams.
