Abid Boxer not yet repatriated, LHC told
LAHORE: Former police inspector Abid Boxer has not been repatriated to Pakistan so far, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) told the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday.
This was stated by FIA’s Director Interpol Tahir Nawaz during the hearing of a petition moved by father in-law of the former inspector, seeking protection of his son in-law. Boxer was arrested in the United Arab Emirates (the UAE) by the local police in a fraud case.
Petitioner Jaffar Rafi had contended through counsel that there was a strong apprehension that Pakistani police would kill Boxer in fake encounter after bringing him back to the country with the help of Interpol.
He said Abid Boxer had been victimised politically by lodging a number of fake cases against him. He asked the court to summon record of all the cases and order the FIA and the police to ensure protection of Boxer.
He pleaded that right of fair trial of Boxer should be protected as guaranteed under Article 10-A of the Constitution. Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq adjourned hearing until March 28. Previously, the police also denied before the court having custody of Abid Boxer when the petitioner alleged that his son in-law had been brought back to the country.
