LAHORE: The father in-law of ‘encounter specialist’ former police inspector Abid Boxer on Thursday approached the Lahore High Court for the protection of his son in-law, who had been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by the local police in a fraud case.

Jaffar Rafi, the petitioner, contended through his counsel that there was a strong apprehension that the Pakistani police would kill Boxer in a fake encounter after bringing him back to the country with the help of Interpol. He said a number of fabricated cases had been registered against his son in-law only on the basis of political victimisation. He asked the court to summon the record of all the cases and order the Federal Investigation Agency and the police to ensure protection to Boxer. After hearing initial contention, Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq issued notices to the FIA and inspector general of police, seeking their replies within a week.
