Some 14 teams of the Sindh Excise Department in collaboration with Traffic Police have launched a drive in the city against vehicles with tinted windows, fancy or “applied for registration license plates and motorcyclists not wearing helmets.
According a press release issued on Thursday, the campaign, which has been launched on the directives of Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla, will continue for a month.
In first phase, the 14 Excise Department teams are working under the supervision of the District South SP on Sharea Faisal. The excise minister, Chawla, has directed the officials in these teams to fully coordinate with Traffic Police and perform their duties while staying within the limits of the law.
He has also urged the owners of vehicles having tinted windows or driving on roads with fancy license plates or “applied for registration” plates to follow the law and remove the illegal material. “It is necessary to curb VIP culture and not only to abide by the law but also to cooperate with law-enforcement agencies,” the statement added.
