National Action Plan for literacy, non-formal education soon

Islamabad: The National Plan of Action for literacy and non-formal education will be launched soon, said National Commission for Human Development chairperson Razina Alam Khan.

"The preparation of the National Plan of Action for Literacy and Non-formal Education (2018-25) is another landmark of the National Training Institute. To be very helpful for education and literacy policymakers and planners, it will be launched very soon," the NCHD chairperson told the fifth meeting of the commission's Advisory Council here.

Among participants were Council of Islamic Ideology member Samia Raheel Qazi, Senator Dr Nighat Agha, former secretary Haji Sanaullah, Member Social Sector at Planning Commission Dr Asma Hayder, former AJK chief economist Dr Ghulam Haider, VC of the Fatima Jinnah Women Univeristy Dr. Samina Qadir, chairman of the Allama Iqbal Open University Distance and Non-formal Education Department Dr Muhammad Ajmal, NGO Khawando Kor CEO Maryam Bibi, project coordinator of the JICA Abid Gill, social activist Hina Salman and NCHD DG Samina Waqar.

The NCHD chairperson said to educate 57 million illiterates of the country along with character building was the prime duty and challenge facing by the nation.

Advisory Council members Hina Salman, Samina Qadir, Samia Raheel Qazi, Abid Gill and Dr. Muhammad Ajmal volunteered to assist the NCHD in its endeavours to further the cause of education.

Besides running 5,949 community feeder schools in the remote areas of the country, there are also 100 Madrassa Feeder School in AJK, Fata, GB and ICT under Mainstreaming of Madrassa Project, she added.

Rehan Malik said to visit the ongoing programmes, monitoring team should include members of the advisory council of the relevant areas as well.

The participants also discussed the new PC-1 of the NCHD and appreciated the strategy about the education of 6.4 million children of age 10-16 years through non-formal schools along with 20,670 adult literacy centres and 3,000 additional community feeder schools as suggested in the PC-1.

The council members recommended that the new PC-1 be for five years instead of three years.
