Islamabad: The government on Wednesday announced reduction in the price of the breakthrough drug for treatment of Hepatitis-C, Sovaldi, from its current price of Rs55,000 to Rs32,300 per bottle.
“The Ministry of National Health Services, in view of the growing epidemic of Hepatitis C in the country, moved quickly to register the drug last month and allowed its import into the country. The measure will benefit over 10 million Hepatitis C patients across Pakistan. The Ministry is taking measures to ensure that adequate quantity of the drug is available to patients within 6 weeks,” a press release issued by the ministry here on Wednesday states. Over 3,000 patients have, in the last couple of months, initiated treatment on Sovaldi.
