Almost every day we see stray animals roaming the streets, desperately searching for food. However, instead of showing mercy to these unfortunate animals, people in our society treat them in an unacceptable manner. A majority of people throw stones at them even when they are silently sleeping in a corner or under a vehicle. Some people add poison in their food, which results in a painful death. Why cannot such people see the plight of these animals? How cruel can they be? Our behaviour shows that we are far away from being called a civilised nation. We are barbaric and callous. We love inflicting pain on the weak.
The treatment which is meted out against these poor creatures is the one which needs to be discouraged and made punishable under law. It is our duty to take care of animals and treat them in a loving manner. Additionally, the government should also look into the matter and take some remedial measures to alleviate their suffering. Shelter homes should be built for stray animals where they can eat and sleep in peace. There are so many NGOs who are working for the welfare of animals. The authorities can help and support them by providing funds.
