Trail of abuse
If the reports issued by NGOs are to be believed, more than 11 children under the age of eight fall prey to sexual abuse every day in Pakistan. Around 4,139 incidents of child abuse took place in 2006. In 43 percent of these cases, the rape survivors were previously acquainted with the criminals. Meanwhile, in 16 percent of the reported cases the rape survivors had been abused by their family members.
Countless instances of sexual abuse have surfaced across the country. However, little has been done to educate children in this regard in Pakistan. In other countries, children are taught about how they can protect themselves in these situations. But few attempts are being made to educate children in our country. The government needs to take action regarding this issue and protect children at all costs.
