Rs12b corruption detected in 6 housing societies, Senate body told

ISLAMABAD: The Senate sub-committee on Cabinet was informed on Friday that corruption of Rs12 billion has been detected in six housing societies in Islamabad.

The meeting chaired by its chairperson Senator Kulsoom Parveen discussed various irregularities in housing societies, laws which regulate societies.

An official informed the meeting that an audit of finances of housing societies was conducted which revealed corruption in six societies.

Registrar Islamabad Housing Societies Muhammad Ali said that corruption of Rs12 billion was found, in Federal Cooperative Housing Society Rs7.5 billion, Sohan Society Rs2.56 billion, Jammu and Kashmir Housing Rs1.7 billion, OGDCL Housing Society Rs670 million, Senate Housing Society Rs320 million and Garden Housing Society Rs20 million.

Senator Kulsoom Parveen directed that the office bearers against whom corruption was proved should not be allowed next elections of housing societies. The committee was also apprised that Intelligence Bureau had established the Gulberg Housing Society. The society was handing over to those members who had cleared dues by the year 2013. Senator Hidaitullah apprised the committee that corruption was in Gulberg society.

On that, a report was also sought from the concerned officials at the next meeting.

Senator Kulsoom Parveen directed Member Planning CDA to issue NoC for electricity connection to hospital of Muhammadmian Soomro and also questioned as why NoC was issued to Cash and Carry located on the Park Road.
