Doctors to decide Kulsoom’s Pak return after 6th session

LONDON: Begum Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif has responded well to 5 sessions of chemo and doctors will advise her on travel to Pakistan at the completion of 6th session, The News has learnt.

A hospital source told that a total of 5 sessions of Chemo have been completed successfully and Begum Kulsom Nawaz has responded well to her treatment. “There are no concerns and her response to treatment has been positive. She is on course and doing well,” said the source. He added that Begum Kulsoon Nawaz has been feeling “a bit weak through” but this is natural to happen when a cancer patient undergoes intense Chemo treatment. The News has learnt that Begum Kulsoom Nawaz’s 6th Chemo session will start at the end of January. “The team of doctors will review at the end of 6th session to decide any further action. Doctors will do all scans again after the 5th Chemo to see any changes.” The source said that the doctors will decide dates of Kuloom Nawaz’ travel to Pakistan when they are satisfied that she is “able and healthy enough for long air travel”. Kulsoom Nawaz was diagnosed with lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes on the left side of her neck, in August last year and she was rushed to London immediately for the treatment. She had contracted “a kind of blood cancer” and was referred to cancer specialists. She was referred by her doctors to cancer specialists for onward treatment. At the first tests, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was told that her cancer was “curable”. Her departure from Pakistan had made headlines because it was soon after Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification by the Supreme Court of Pakistan and by-election in NA-120. Maryam Nawaz ran election campaign in her mother’s absence which she went on to win. Begum Kulsoom Nawaz has been getting treatment at the Harley Street Clinic and has been staying with younger son, Hasan Nawaz Sharif, on Park Lane.
