National Boxing gets under way tomorrow
LAHORE: The National Men and Women Boxing Championship will be held at Wapda Sports Complex from January 20 to 24 under the aegis of Wapda Sports Board and in collaboration with Pakistan Boxing Federation.
As many as 15 teams will participate in the men’s event. These include Wapda, Army, Navy, PAF, Railways, KPT, K-Electric, KP, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad, AJ&K, FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan. With an aim to popularise boxing amongst females, women Championship is being organised for the first time, wherein as many as 24 women players from the provinces and associations will compete in three weight categories i.e. 51kg, 60kg and 75kg. Opening ceremony of the championships will be held on January 20 when Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) President Lt Gen (retd) Arif Hassan will be the chief guest. Wapda chairman Lt Gen (retd) Muzammil Hussain will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony on January 24.
The managers meeting for weight categories and draws will be held on January 19 at competition venue. Aamir Jan, Secretary Sports and Director General Sports Board Punjab, will be the chief guest at women’s events on January 23.
