PM approves appointing Shahid Mehmood as ADB ED

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has approved summary for appointing Shahid Mehmood as Executive Director to Asian Development Bank (ADB) for tenure of three years.

“Yes, the PM has approved summary for appointing Shahid Mehmood as Executive Director to ADB. This summary has been reverted back to Economic Affairs Division with the approval of the premier,” top official of the government confirmed to The News on Thursday.

Now the process will kick-start for assuming the position of Executive Director into ADB based at Manila. The incumbent executive director would take few months to return back to Islamabad so Shahid Mehmood would assume his new slot after couple of months.

However, another summary for appointing Shahid Mehmood as Adviser to Finance Ministry as stop gap arrangement had not yet been returned from PM Secretariat. Shahid Mehmood got retired from the service after reaching at age of superannuation on January 5, 2018. The Establishment Division has also issued notification to this effect after receiving summary from the PM Office.

Talking to The News on Thursday night, Shahid Mehmood confirmed that the summary for his appointment as Executive Director into the ADB was approved by the PM. He said efforts would be made to further cement ties with the ADB. To another query regarding seeking approval of policy and budgetary loans, he said that efforts would be made to streamline and enhance credit line for Pakistan in months and years ahead.

Official sources confirmed to The News that two summaries were moved to PM regarding appointment of Shahid Mehmood as Adviser to Finance Ministry as stop gap arrangement for ensuring continuity in economic policies and second summary was moved for his appointment as Executive Director to Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Shahid Mehmood, who reached at the age of superannuation on January 6, 2018 had got retired on January 5, 2018 because it was his last official working day.
