Jati Umra meeting decides to legislate against anti-parliament rants
LAHORE: A meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) bigwigs, including Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and party president Nawaz Sharif, agreed on legislation to create deterrence against contemptuous speeches against the parliament, after condemning the scornful language used for the house by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman.
The prime minister arrived in the city to attend two separate meetings at Jati Umra. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif received the PM at the Lahore Airport on Thursday. Punjab chief secretary, CCPO Lahore, commissioner Lahore Division, DIG (Operations) and others were also present.
In the first meeting, the participants condemned the disdainful insults hurled at the parliament and it was unanimously agreed that all political parties would be taken onboard to introduce legislation to create strict deterrence against such acts through severe punishment.
The participants shared that Pakistan People’s Party, along with many other parties, was willing to get onboard for such legislation. The party leadership was updated on the pace of progress on the development projects, especially the energy sector initiatives. The meeting discussed ways to make up for the delays, caused because of disqualification of Nawaz Sharif and consequent loss of investor confidence in Pakistan economy.
In the second meeting, Hasil Bizenjo, Mahmud Khan Achakzai, Prime Minister Abbasi and Nawaz Sharif discussed the fallout of the political manoeuvring in the Balochistan Assembly and the probable ways to minimise the damage it could cause to the party in the upcoming Senate elections.
