Ulema assure Qaim of support for NAP execution

As part of efforts to gather maximum possible support for a final onslaught against terrorists and to boost implementation of the National Action Plan, the Sindh chief minister held a meeting with Ulema of the Jamaat Ahle Sunnat on Monday.
The visiting delegation comprised Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Mufti Muneeb Rehman, Sunni Tehreek chief Sarwat Aijaz Qadri, Allama Syed Muzaffar Shah, Rehan Amjad Noorani, Shabbir Abu Talib, Shahid Ghauri and others.
Qaim Ali Shah told the visitors that the government was committed to implement the NAP for which people from all walks of life, particularly ulema, have to cooperate and strengthen the government’s hands.
He said the country was passing through a critical phase and told the ulema, “The constitution has been amended with a heavy heart because the changes have affected basic rights of citizens. We are in a war-like situation and will have to win this war at any cost. Therefore, every patriotic and peaceful citizen has to play his and her role.”
Qaim said he was confident that the Ulema from Sindh would cooperate with the government in implementing the NAP in letter and spirit. “I am sure the law for registering madressahs and regulated use of loudspeakers will be respected as it will help the government harmonise different sects.”
Mufti Muneeb said, “The madaris of Jamaat Ahle Sunnat believe in peace, tranquillity and inter-faith harmony. We were the first to accept the NAP despite some reservations and are cooperating with the government in its implementation.”
The chief minister appreciated their gesture saying that madressahs already working in the province were required to be registered under the law and prior permission was mandatory to establish new seminaries.
It was decided in the meeting that the ulema would nominate a focal person at the divisional level to coordinate with the administration.
Commissioner Shoaib Siddiqui, Additional Inspector General of Police Ghulam Qadir Thebo, Rashid Rabbani and Waqar Mehdi were also present at the meeting.

Daewoo buses launch
The Daewoo transport company has sought time from the Sindh government to launch a fleet of 50 buses on inter-city routes.
The company’s CEO made this request to Qaim Ali Shah when he called on him, along with Sindh Transport Minister Aijaz Jakhrani.
Shaharyar Chishti briefed the chief minister that, on his directives, 50 air-conditioned buses with seating capacity of 45 persons and separate ladies seats would be made available soon.
Shah said March 23 was an important day for the nation and directed the transport minister to complete necessary formalities within 10 days.
