Hold your fire

December 21, 2017

Celebratory gunfire has become a perilous trend at wedding celebrations across the country and has resulted in a large number of deaths. If a report issued by the Human Rights Commission is anything to go by, 81 people lost their lives to aerial firing in Karachi in 2013. The year 2017 took off with numerous deaths on New Year’s Eve that were invariably caused by celebratory gunfire.

This practice has turned a happy occasion into a glum one. While these incidents as little more than accidents, we cannot undermine the fact that people have lost their lives on account to aerial firing. As New Year’s Eve draws near, steps should be taken to ensure that aerial firing is prevented.
