Woman, two sons die of burns

A woman and her two sons expired in hospital on Friday, a few hours after they received burns in their South Cantt house.

The victims were identified as Shakeela Bibi and her two sons Waleed, 19, and Sajjad, 22, residents of Nishat Colony, South Cantt. Shakeela and her four sons were asleep when a blanket fell on the heater caught fire. As a result of which, the woman and her four sons received serious burns. On being informed, the rescuers rushed to the scene and shifted the injured persons to hospital where Shakeela, Waleed and Sajjad died, whereas the condition of other two sons of Shakeela was also said to be precarious.

Five people from another family were safely evacuated from the double-storey house. Meanwhile, a 42-year old woman got injuries when a gas compressor exploded in a house in the Nawankot area. The injured woman identified as Razia Bibi was admitted to hospital.

Lawyers strike: Lawyers of Lahore Bar Association on Friday observed strike to condemn registration of FIRs against the lawyers of Multan Bar Association. Multan police registered cases against 40 lawyers, including Lahore High Court Bar Multan Bench President Sherzaman Qureshi, for vandalising the new judicial complex. The call for strike was given by Punjab Bar Council which was endorsed by the LBA.

The lawyers didn’t appear before courts except in the cases of important nature. A large number of cases were put off till the next hearings without any development. Christmas: Nursing staff at the Lahore General Hospital emergency department held a ceremony regarding Christmas.

A cake was cut and gifts exchanged in this regard. On this occasion, Anwar Sultana said this day is equally sacred for Muslims as we regard Jesus as Prophet as well. She expressed solidarity with Christian Community. She asked the junior nurses to work as a team and share each other experience. She said brotherhood is always needed and we should work with unity.

balloting: Provincial Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sindhu has said the Punjab government is working hard to build a society based on the principles of social and economic justice.

Addressing at 90 Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam on the 16th, 17th and 18th balloting of the Restaurant Invoice Management System (RIMS), Amanat scheme, here on Friday, the minister said that, as a part of Punjab government's ambitious growth and development agenda, the government was investing in the socio-economic capital of the province.
