CPSP working on extension of training facilities in Nepal

Islamabad : The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) is evaluating the suitability and sufficiency of appropriate facilities for creation of educational atmosphere in Nepal to implement further programmes of the CPSP there for Nepalese students in medical field.

For the purpose, the Regional Director of CPSP Regional Centre Islamabad Professor Dr. Muhammad Shoaib Shafi being chairman of an inspection team as nominated by the CPSP Headquarters, Karachi visited Nepal recently.

Professor of Surgery at Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi Dr. Muhammad Hanif and Professor of Surgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Lahore Dr. Kamran Khalid Khawaja accompanied Professor Shoaib as the inspection team members.

The inspection team visited Civil Service Hospital and Manmohan Memorial Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Khatmandu, Nepal for evaluation of training facilities to introduce additional programmes of the CPSP. It is important that as many as 52 fellows of the CPSP are working in Nepal while the CPSP has 60 postgraduate trainees there in Nepal. The CPSP is providing training opportunities to Nepalese students in disciplines of Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Cardiology, Anaesthesia, Plastic Surgery, Opthalmology, Orthopaedics, Clinical Haematology and ENT as these training programmes of CPSP are recognised since 2009 in Nepal.

After inspection, the team visited Regional Centre of CPSP in Khatmandu and also visited University of Khatmandu and Teaching Hospital to exchange views of common interest with the university officials. The vice chancellor of the university requested Professor Shoaib to start CPSP fellowship programmes in various disciplines in the university. The chief executive of Bharatpur Eye Hospital Nepal visited the CPSP team in a local hotel in Nepal and requested the team for facilitation of training in the field of Opthalmology in the Eye Hospital.

Later, at night, the CPSP hosted a dinner for its fellows and PG trainees that was attended by the CPSP supervisors residing in Nepal. Ambassador of Pakistan in Nepal Mazhar Javed was the chief guest on the occasion. Regional Director of CPSP Nepal Centre Professor Geeta was also present at the dinner. Well over 100 dignitaries attended the dinner and on the occasion, a detailed presentation was given on the CPSP’s future vision in Nepal, said Professor Shoaib while talking to ‘The News’ on Wednesday. He said the ambassador of Pakistan in Nepal helped the CPSP a lot and graced his presence in almost all important meetings. The CPSP presented shields to Professor Geeta and Mazhar Javed, he said. To a question, he claimed that majority of Nepalese prefer FCPS over Indian MD and MS programmes in Nepal.
