Private business group’s scheme for journalists

Islamabad: The Sardar Group of Companies, a leading business group has announced a housing scheme for the full-time working journalists across the country.

Sardar Tanvir Ilyas Khan, head of Sardar Group of Companies, said that previously they were planning to allot 200 plots to the working journalists but now they have decided to construct 200 residential flats for them.

He said that practical work on the project would start from the next year and it would be executed in consultation with a committee comprising people from the journalist community. The deserving full-time journalists, for the welfare project, would be selected from all the four provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and the federal capital.

Sardar Tanvir pointed that 15% of the quota would be reserved for deserving families of the deceased journalists in acknowledgement of their services. “We are setting trend for the other business groups who should also come forward for the welfare of different segments of the society,” he said. He recalled that from his student life he had passion for profession of journalism and also wrote for some newspapers and knew problems of the community very well.
