FC man awarded life in student killing case

PESHAWAR: A local court on Monday awarded life imprisonment to a Frontier Constabulary (FC) man for killing in firing a student of University of Engineering and Technology in 2014.
The court of Additional Sessions Judge, Younas Khan, announced life-term to FC man, Shehzad Ahmad. He had opened fire on a student, Sajidullah Khan, who had not stopped after a signal at a check-post in Hayatabad. The student was killed in the firing.
The court announced the decision after hearing arguments from both sides.  
As per the first information report, lodged on September 18, 2014 at the Tatara Police Station in Hayatabad, by Abidullah, the brother of the deceased student, had charged the FC man under sections 302 and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code for killing his brother.
Counsels for the deceased student including Asfandyar Khan and Muhammad Bilal Jan submitted that police had recovered the gun from the accused after firing at the student and he had also confessed in the court to killing the deceased.
They argued that the FC man had misused his power and opened fire at an innocent student at the check-post. The counsels prayed before the court to award a strict punishment to the accused in the murder case.  
They stated that the Frontier Constabulary opened fire on a student when he didn’t respond to their signal at a checkpoint in the limits of Tatara Police Station in Hayatabad Township. The 24-year-old student was killed in the firing while returning home after meeting his friend.
Police said that FC man Sherhzad, a resident of Mansehra, opened fire on Sajidullah, a student of University of Engineering and Technology, when he did not stop his motorcar and ignored the signal of the soldiers, manning the checkpoint.
The student was a resident of Dera Ismail Khan and was living in Hayatabad.
The complainant claimed that his brother was on way to his home and had done nothing wrong but the FC man targeted him without any reason.
