Girl gunned down over proposal refusal

LAHORE: A 22-year-old woman was shot dead on refusal to a marriage proposal by her relative in the Baghbanpura police area on Friday.
Police said the relatives of the victim, Naila, a resident of Darogha Wala, proposed her for their son Amanat but her parents refused the proposal. On this, Amanat nursed grudge. On the day of the incident, the woman was on her way to a bazaar when Amanat allegedly opened indiscriminate fire and wounded her. She was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her wounds. Police have collected evidences and removed the body to morgue. The accused manged to flee.
murdered: A man was killed allegedly by a shopkeeper over a monetary dispute in the Rang Mahal police limits on Friday.
The victim was identified as Shahbaz. Police said the accused shopkeeper identified as Rao Afzaal had taken loan from the victim. On the day of the incident, Shahbaz demanded his money back over which the accused got furious and opened fire. As a result, the victim suffered bullet wound and was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. The accused fled. Police have registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s father Akram. tortured to death: A 60-year-old man was tortured to death over a monetary dispute in the Kot Lakhpat police area on Friday.
The victim was identified as Ishaq. Police said the victim demanded Rs 1.3 million from accused Abdul Razzaq of Gawala Colony, Kot Lakhpat, over the sale of buffalos. On this, Abdul Razzaq along with his accomplices allegedly tortured and injured him. The victim was removed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A case has been registered against the accused killers. Police are raiding to arrest them.
security: The inspector general of police, Punjab, has directed the police officers concerned to provide foolproof security to all religious gatherings and processions of Eid Milad. He said that DPOs themselves should devised security plan for the A-category sensitive processions and Mahafil, and also ensure compliance with the SOPs by the officials on security duty. The IG was told that more than 75,000 officers and officials would perform security duties on the occasion.
The IG said that expert snipers should be deployed on the rooftops. Plain-clothes commandos should also be deployed to ensure the security of processions and Mahafil of A-category to avoid any untoward incident, he added. He expressed these views while addressing a video link conference of RPOs and DPOs held to finalise the security arrangements for Eid Milad at the CPO office, Lahore. Other high-ranking police officers also attended the conference.
awareness: The City Traffic Police Lahore has issued the report of last 10 months of the current year regarding traffic awareness campaigns.
According to the report, the traffic police officers, during the campaigns, delivered more than 1,500 lectures and arranged more than 80 seminars to educate the citizens, including students and drivers of public transport. More than 100 programmes on different TV channels and 50 programmes on radio were arranged to educate the citizens on traffic rules. On the occasion, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) SSP Rai Ijaz Ahmad said that the basic purpose of the traffic awareness campaigns was to change the mindset of the rash drivers. "We can save hundreds of youngsters from accidents by stopping them from rash and underage driving," he said. Meanwhile, CTO Rai Ejaz presided over a meeting to review the performance of the road safety officers at Qurban Police Lines.
checking: Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) held a general hold-up on the directions of the inspector general police, Punjab. Keeping in view the incident occurred in Peshawar, PHP strengthened its security arrangements across the province. Different types of vehicles, including cars and motorcyclist, were checked thoroughly.
