Broken roads

November 24, 2017
While travelling in the morning to the office or school, commuters would witness a mad rush on roads. Motorcyclists, while taking advantage of the size of their vehicle, start riding on footpaths. This halts pedestrians to walk on footpaths. Frequent traffic jam is a major problem and one that needs to be dealt with immediately, but creating an alternative which will be a nuisance for others is not good. Many times motorcyclists do not follow traffic rules while riding on roads. First, they do not wear helmet. Second, they keep changing lanes without any fear of getting hit by a vehicle. It is unfortunate that the traffic authorities do not keep proper check on these motorcyclists. The main problem is that the population of the country has gone up, but the authorities haven’t taken adequate measures to accommodate the large number of motorists on roads. We still have narrow roads on which it is difficult to manage a heavy flow of traffic.
Another problem which is being faced by commuters is broken roads. A large number of potholes on roads have been it difficult for motorists to have a smooth ride. In Rawalpindi, Raja Bazaar is the centre of all business activities. Traders from across the city come to the market daily for business purposes. However, riding on the market’s roads is a big challenge. All these roads are in a deplorable condition and must be repaired on an urgent basis. With the current state of roads and the increase in volume of traffic, I am afraid we may face even bigger challenges in the future. Nobody, including the local government, is interested to provide facilities to the common man.
