KARACHI: Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Tuesday said the democracy in the country is defeating all conspiracies against it.
In a series of tweets, the former first daughter said they bow their heads in humility and gratitude, praising Almighty Allah.
Her tweets came as the National Assembly rejected a proposed constitutional amendment seeking to bar disqualified members from heading a political party.
The proposed amendment was aimed at depriving Maryam's father and thrice the prime minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership.
Without naming his father, Maryam said everybody wanted "a single person minus," but they could not, adding, "He was not a person and an ideology cannot be subtracted."
"This is the verdict of the people," she said. "Democracy stands firm against conspiracies for the first time."
"This gives hope for a [better] future," Maryam added.
She also paid tribute to the ones who stood by her father despite all the "threats and pressure."
She said that no force could remove the love of Nawaz Sharif from people’s hearts as he was people’s leader in the past and today as well.
After concluding the visit of NA-120 the constituency where Maryam Nawaz run her mother campaign for by-poll and won the seat, she was talking to the media. She said she was glad to see the determination and enthusiasm of the workers as the PML-N has always served the people. No power can face the power of vote and the PML-N will get success in the next election, like the previous one and opponents will concede defeat, she added.
Earlier, Maryam inaugurated the 3.2-km Modal
Sanda Road.
