Seminary teacher booked for corporal punishment

HARIPUR: The Haripur Police have registered a case against a seminary teacher accused of subjecting a 14-year old student to severe corporal punishment. The city police quoted the complainant Amir, 14, son of Riaz, resident of Nara Amazai as saying that he was enrolled in Madrasah Tafheemul Islam at Tarbela Road. He alleged that a seminary teacher Qari Zahid beat him up with sticks after accusing him of stealing Rs50. He said suffered bruises due to the thrashing. The child was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Haripur where the doctors treated him. A case under section 342 and 34 of Child Protection Act was registered against the accused, who was granted bail before arrest by the court.
