All steps being taken for Karachi peace: PM

KARACHI: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that all required steps are being taken to ensure law and order in Karachi on permanent basis.
The PM said this on Sunday as he met Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair at the Governor House. Earlier, the PM reached Karachi on a two-day visit. The Sindh governor and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah both received the PM at the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi on his arrival.
The law and order of Sindh was reviewed in the meeting between the PM and Sindh governor. Projects being implemented in Sindh with federal government’s support, and other matters related to economic and commercial activities were also reviewed in the meeting.
During the meeting, the PM said that Karachi was considered as the economic hub of the entire country and the development and prosperity of Karachi would create positive effects for the entire country.
He said that personnel of the Pakistan Army, Rangers, Police, other law-enforcement agencies, and general public rendered great sacrifices for restoration of law and order in Karachi; and their sacrifices would not go in vain.
The PM said that the present government had to face two major challenges the moment it had come to power: worsened situation of law and order and serious electricity crisis. He said that the present government with support of people restored peace in the entire country, including Sindh.
He said that provision of security to lives and property of people and giving them all the required facilities were foremost preferences of the present government. He said that federation wanted uniform development of every part of the country and for this cause, maximum participation of masses was being assured in the process of development.
The prime minister said that access of quality civic facilities was one of the fundamental rights of people. He said the government had been paying full attention to the cause of development after restoration of law and order and the federation would continue to extend cooperation to Sindh for the same purpose.
The Sindh governor said on that economic, commercial, social, and cultural activities of the province were gradually being accelerated with restoration of law and order. He said that people were being provided job opportunities and foreign investment in the province was also on the rise.
The governor said that consultations were being made with the concerned stakeholders, including religious and political parties, industrialists, businessmen for prosperity and development of the province.
Governor Zubair said that projects had been selected to be implemented under federal government’s Karachi package after consultation with concerned stakeholders. He said that completion of the projects—being implemented with federal government’s assistance—would resolve issues of masses and would also be helpful in raising standard of living of the people.
He said that projects of federal government being implemented in towns of Hyderabad, Jacobabad, Thatta, Tando Mohammad Khan, Naushahero Feroze, and Karachi had gained much importance.
In the end, the governor said that Sindh had become the prime beneficiary of the economic policies of federal government as its commercial, economic, and investment activities had got a major boost.
