FIA tasked to probe who is targeting Punjab CM

ISLAMABAD: The main task for the FIA in Chinese companies alleged money laundering case will be to probe the letter of Senator Kulsoom Perveen, its verification by the Foreign Office, leakage of sensitive information of the two governments to media and most importantly who was managing the whole show to target Punjab chief minister.

From December 2016 till July 2017, the SECP swiftly held its investigations in Chinese Company Jiangsu Yabaite Technology Co Ltd’s alleged money laundering case and not a single thing of the SECP or CSRC findings was leaked to the media.

But all of a sudden in the month of August, a senior official in the SECP allegedly leaked the most sensitive information exchanged between China and Pakistan to media to create another corruption scandal of Sharif family.

The SECP in its official statement has stated that it has referred the case to FIA for further investigation. However, the first major challenge for FIA will be to dig out the reality behind Senator Kulsoom Perveen as it is also attested by Foreign Office of Pakistan.

Interestingly, Senator Kulsoom Perveen’s letter which has been presented by Yabaite Technology, is written on her letter head when she was chairperson of Senate Standing Committee on Health. It is pertinent to mention here that after the passage of 17th Amendment, the health ministry was devolved to provinces. It means that the letterhead used for making this letter was old.

Senator Kulsoom Perveen, while talking to The News, categorically denied writing any such letter for Yabaite. She claimed that the letterhead was old enough; hence fake.

However, a well-placed source informed The News that the authorities concerned have some doubts on Senator Kulsoom Perveen’s letter. According to sources, Senator Kulsoom recently sent requests for visiting China with official delegation of Pakistani government thrice, but she was refused.

Senator Kulsoom denied sending any such requests. Not only she sent requests for herself but she also requested for an official visit of a businessman from Baluchistan with Pakistani official delegation which was also turned out by the government, the sources said.

Senator Kulsoom was perturbed by the constant pursuit by this correspondent on the matter, saying “Iss ki Jan Chhorr dain” (stop following it).

At Foreign Office, a twist in the story came when it was revealed that the person whose stamp has been used to attest Senator Kulsoom’s letter has been retired in July 2017. This raises some serious questions that whether the person involved in this whole plot was aware about the retirement date of the F.O official.

Foreign Office spokesperson informed The News that the relevant department could verify this letter. Consular Section of the Foreign Office revealed that Nadeem Asghar, whose stamp has been used for the verification of Senator Kulsoom Perveen’s letter, was retired in July 2017. In addition to this, neither the Consular Section nor the spokesman of Foreign Office has sent any denial of the letter’s attestation.

The SECP in its official statement has clarified that no officials of China Securities Regulatory Commission ever visited Pakistan to obtain any statement from any individual. However, it is yet to be ascertained that who managed the statement of so-called CEO of Capital Engineering and Construction Company Pvt Ltd Faisal Subhan. It is yet to be found out whether Faisal Subhan really exists or he too is a concocted character. The FIA has this mammoth task ahead in this regard because the CSRC provided only a visiting card of CEO of Capital Engineering Subhan which was illegible except the name of the persons.
