Sixteen shops were looted in a market in the Qayyumabad area in the wee hours of Saturday.
A group of thieves broke the locks of the shops in Sector B of the locality and stole cash, jewellery, garments, toys and other merchandise worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.
Police registered a case and started an investigation.
Taking notice of the incident, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) AD Khowaja directed that steps be taken for the early arrest of the robbers.
A police spokesman said that the provincial police chief directed the DIG East to submit a report in this regard.
He further directed that evidence be collected from the crime scene to ensure the prompt arrest of the culprits. He asked the SSP to take into confidence the affected shopkeepers and persuade them to end their protest.
