Plight of Thar
By our correspondents
August 21, 2017
Food is the basic right of an individual and an essential part of a human life. Unfortunately, the people of the Thar district are dying because of the shortage of clean water and food.
Recently, six children died because of the complications caused by malnutrition. As of now, the deaths recorded since January have climbed to 154. At least 1,340 infants have died since 2014 due to respiratory diseases and diarrhoea. In Thar, there are a sufficient number of hospitals. However, there are no doctors to treat patients. Young children in Thar need the support of the government and international NGOs.
