Boy killed during Nawaz’s rally

LALAMUSA: Speeding cars accompanying Nawaz Sharif’s homecoming motorcade crushed a nine-year-old child to death in Lalamusa Friday.

The child identified as Ahmad was among the crowd of supporters gathered to greet the former premier as his motorcade passed through Lalamusa. 

It seems that he strayed onto the road and was hit by one of the cars belonging to the Elite Force before multiple following cars ran him over without stopping.

According to eyewitnesses, the child succumbed to his injuries while the vehicles passed over him.

The child’s father suffered heart attack after he saw his child’s mangled body on the road. Locals said the father was shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors were trying to save his life. 

According to victim’s brother, the incident took place near Chak Paireena area of Lalamusa. Brother of the deceased told media that Khalid was returning home after offering prayers when he was hit by a speeding motorcyclist. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival

Talking to Geo News, Railways Minister Kh Saad Rafique said perhaps the boy fell from the road driver and was hit by a car. He said investigation into the accident was right of the aggrieved. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said the boy was hit by a car that tried to join the rally. He also promised investigation. 

Meanwhile, the local police police chief told Geo News that case was registered and the driver would be arrested. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb later regretted the incident in a statement hours after the incident.

According to Online news agency, in another incident, a 55-year-old man died after being hit by a motorcycle which was part of the rally.

Our correspondent adds: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed grief over the
death of a boy hit by ex-premier’s motorcade in Lalamusa and extended sympathies to the bereaved family. 

He has taken notice of the incident and has sought report from the Gujrat DPO along with the direction to investigate the incident. He has directed that legal action should be taken against the responsible persons. He has further said the bereaved family should be provided justice at all costs.
