Govt-run Autism Centre and Braille Printing Press inaugurated
Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister for Human Rights and Special Education Rehana Laghari inaugurated the country’s first state-of-art government-run ‘Autism Centre and Braille Printing Press’ at the Special Education Complex in Karachi on Tuesday.
The event was organised by the Special Education Department at the Special Education Complex, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, to proclaim the milestone and achievements of the provincial government, said a statement.
On this occasion, the special assistant also distributed hearing aids, donated by the Human Rights Department, among hearing-impaired children and certificates among Special Education Department employees who got training of operating the Braille Printing Press.
Speaking to the gathering, she commended that the government, by establishing the Autism Centre and installing the Braille Printing Press, became first, which would provide education and training to autistic children not only from the province but from across the country too, and books also would be cheaply published.
She said noise pollution was one of the biggest issues in our society, causing loss of the listening ability, but no one among us cared about it at any level.
Laghari further stated that civilised societies provided and took special care of their special people by providing good and healthy education and training, as well as by making them able for bread-earning opportunities.
She also announced that the Special Education Department had recommended a scheme to get an authentic figure of special children affected by different disabilities in the province. The event was attended among others by Special Education Secretary Dr Zulfiqar Shallwani, Human Rights Secretary Dr
Tanveer Ahmed Qureshi, Human Rights Director Aslam Khoso and a good number of special children and their parents. The secretary of the Special Education Department announced that parents of autistic children could now apply for admissions of their children to the Autism Centre.
