US envoy assures help in health sector

LAHORE: US Commercial Consular in Pakistan Stephen P Knode called on Punjab Primary and Secondary Health Department (P&SHD) Secretary Ali Jan Khan here on Friday to discuss New Health Initiatives by the department to explore possible options of collaboration between Punjab government and the US in health sector.

According to a handout, Consulate General Lahore Commercial Specialist US Andrew Doehler, Commercial Specialist Aftab Qamar, Hassan Raza and Mauaz Raza were also present in the meeting.  Ali Jan Khan briefed the delegation on new initiatives taken by P&SHD in line with the vision of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

The US commercial sonsular appreciated the new initiatives taken by the department, hospitality of people of Punjab and assured all-out cooperation by the US government in development of health sector in Punjab.

The US consular also showed interest in extending technical assistance in setting up latest Health Information Management System (HIMS) and improvement in hospital management. He said that US would extend all-out cooperation for better disease control by CDC Atlanta.

The need of a comprehensive and effective Disease Early Warning System also came under discussion.
