It is heartening to see that Karachi has reclaimed its lost status of the ‘City of Lights’ and that the people of this metropolis are no longer living in perpetual fear for their lives.

This was stated by the director general of the Sindh Rangers, Major General Mohammed Saeed, at a youth festival held at the Peoples Football Stadium in Lyari on Sunday.

He said Karachi had witnessed more than its fair share of violence and bloodshed as terrorists and criminals rendered peoples’ life miserable. “Today, people from every walk of life are happier and businesses are flourishing. This city has once again become a city of lights.”

The Rangers chief said the large number of people attending the youth festival was a sign of the revival of law and order in Lyari, an area that was once regarded a stronghold of criminals and gangsters.

He used the occasion to pay tribute to the eminent philanthropist, Abdul Sattar Edhi, for his inimitable services for humanity. He said no one would remember the people who were a symbol of terror and only the greats such as Edhi live on in the hearts of the people.

Maj Gen Saeed called for citizens’ cooperation to ensure sustainable peace, urging all to monitor their children’s activities and help make them a positive force for society.

He appealed to the people of Lyari to cooperate with law enforcers and send their children to schools, adding that students must be given lectures on ethics in educational institutes.
