JIT summons Rehman Malik today
ISLAMABAD: The Joint Investigation Team issued summons to former Interior Minister Rehman Malik for his personal appearance before the probing body on June 13 (today) especially in the context of the previous investigation carried out by him into alleged money laundering through Hudaibiya Paper Mills and purchase of London Mayfair flats by the Sharif family, the sources told The News here on Monday.
"Rehman Malik will inform the JIT about the investigation carried out by his team during the Benazir Bhutto's second tenure as the prime minister into various scams including money laundering through Hudaibiya Paper Mills and purchase of London Mayfair flats by the Sharif family," the sources said. The sources said Rehman Malik is more than willing to appear before the JIT because, according to his close friends, he wants to share some important data that would help identify the 'real' money trail of the London flats. A spokesperson for Senator Rehman Malik stated on Monday that the former interior minister would soon appear before the Panama case JIT. The spokesperson explained that Malik, who left Pakistan for London on June 9, received a summons by the JIT on June 10 to appear on June 13. Rehman Malik who is currently living abroad had claimed that the team of investigators who registered the cases and worked under his supervision were suspended when Nawaz Sharif took over the office of Prime Minister for the second time. Meanwhile, The JIT informed the Supreme Court on Monday that it would be unable to complete its probe in the given 60-day time period due to difficulties being created by some state institutions.
