Price hike

By our correspondents
May 30, 2017

The prices of most of food items have gone up since the beginning of Ramazan. Before the holy month, chicken was available at the rate of Rs175 per kg, but it is now being sold at Rs200 per kg. The price of flour – which is consumed the most during Ramazan – has gone up fromRs80 per kg to Rs90 per kg. Countries across the world provide discounts on food items during the holy month of Ramazan. However, in our country, the situation is the opposite. Despite being aware of the poverty level of the country and the hardships of the working class, profiteers sell items at high prices. The essence of fasting is to understand the sufferings of the poor. It is to feel how the underprivileged lives in extreme poverty – not having anything to eat. On the other hand, profiteers deliberately raise prices to make more profit. The Pakistani nation always blames the government for everything that goes wrong in the country. In this case, we are the one to be blamed. These profiteers are regular people who make the most of the holy month.

Let us observe the month of Ramazan with full devotion. Prices of essential commodities should be reduced to their original prices. The government should keep a check on the prices and keep an eye on shopkeepers to ensure that they are following the government-approved price list or not. If we are not going to think for our fellow people, no one will think about them. We have to change ourselves first. Let’s make a difference in this blessed month.
