Speakers call for promoting Islamic values

Allama Iqbal Open University organised a welcome Ramazan’s function to project the teachings of Islam with special reference to the holy month. The speakers underlined the need of following true essence and spirit of fasting to earn Allah’s eternal blessings.

The function was presided by the Minster of State for religious affairs Pir Muhammad Aminul Hasnat Shah, eminent scholar Dr. Habib Rehman Asim was the chief guest. AIOU research journal on ‘Seerat studies’ was also launched on the occasion.

Speakers included Senator Naeema Kishwar, Khurshid Anwar and AIOU Dean of Islamic Studies Dr. Shah Mohyuddin Hashimi.

The AIOU’s VC Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui in his welcome address said that the university will hold series of activities during Ramazan to highlight it significance and to motivate it students to practice Islamic ethics and values in their life, keeping in view the spirit of fasting.

Dr. Habibur Rehman enlightened the audience of the Holy month’s benefits and importance of Ramazan.

Senator Neema Kishawar said that educational institutions has a major role in helping the society to get rid intolerance and extremism.

Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences Dr. Samina Awan also spoke on the occasion and thanked speakers.

Earlier, a ‘Natia Musharia’ was presided over by poet Iftikar Arif. Twenty poets participated, ‘Hamad-o-Sana was recited. Poet Dr. Ehsan Akbar, chief guest on the occasion, recited poetic verses to pay tributes to the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).

The event was arranged by Allama Iqbal Open University Urdu Department, Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir.
