Symposium on medicine, treatment

Punjab University’s Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology (IBB) organised a national symposium on personalised medicine, detection, diagnosis and treatment here on Thursday. 

PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasir, Acting Director IBB Prof Dr Javed Iqbal Qazi, Incharge IBB Dr Mahjabeen Saleem, resource person Dr Johar Ali, Dr Asma Manzoor, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion. 

According to a press release, addressing the inaugural session, Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasir said the only difference between human beings and animals was knowledge; otherwise, similarity between genetic map of human beings and animals was about 95 percent. 

Dr Johar Ali threw light on genome sequencing, biotechnology data generation, data interpretation, data analysis and data mining. He said biotechnologists would have to come forward in various fields in which scientists were advancing in the modern world.

Workshop: The Quality Enhancement Cell of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) organised a one-day training “Optimal Use of Turnitin by Supervisors" here on Thursday.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the inaugural session of the workshop while  QEC Director Dr Hafsa Zaneb and a number of faculty members were also present.

The objective of the training was to build the capacity of QEC focal persons about the use of Turnitin software. Dr Hafsa Zaneb highlighted the role of QEC focal persons in the evolving procedures related to quality assurance. Dr Sanaullah Iqbal was the resource person for the technical part of the training. He carried out an interactive practice session about the basic as well as advanced features of the software.

UET: A delegation of Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Strategic Export Control Division (SECDIV) visited University of Engineering and Technology (UET), here Thursday and held a meeting with acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ghulam Abbas Anjum.

According to a press release, SECDIV director general Dr Zafar Ali briefed about Pakistan export control, policy guidelines, mission statement and working hierarchy of (SECDIV).
