The Pakistan Meteorological Department has planned advanced weather forecasting services at the New Islamabad International Airport.

Under construction near Fateh Jang area of Attock district few kilometres from Islamabad, the airport is likely to be operational by the end of coming July.

If things go as planned, it will be inaugurated by the prime minister on August 14.

Irfan Virk, deputy director at the PMD National Weather Forecasting Centre, Islamabad, said the department had planned to provide advanced technology-based aviation meteorological services from the New Islamabad International Airport to all international and national flights.

“We with the support of the Aviation Division have procured a state-of-the-art Pilot Met Briefing System from France, which will be installed at the New Islamabad International Airport before the latter is operational. The relevant technical staff members of the PMD have already been trained about this system by aviation experts from a French company, Corobor Systems,” he said.

Based in Paris, the Corobor Systems has been providing IT solutions for meteorology and aviation for 24 years.

The weatherman also said the Pakistan Meteorological Department would upgrade its existing aviation meteorological services at all airports in near future.
