Islamabad: The water supply committee formed by Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) is continuously monitoring the work currently underway to remove illegal connections and repair main supply line of water from the Simly Dam.

According to the preliminary report of the committee, the leakages in the main water supply line have been repaired at the cost of Rs800,000, which would enable the residents to receive thousands of gallons of water per day.

For many years now, Islamabad has been faced with a shortage of water, particularly in the summer months. The residents of the city are being supplied 75 million gallons per day when they require 211 million gallons a day.

Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz said illegal connections from water supply line of Simly Dam have been removed as water was being supplied to factories, service stations, restaurants and hotels and residential units without any permission from the concerned authorities.  He said the members of the water supply committee visited many areas to inspect the maintenance work of the water supply line including Quaid-e-Azam University, Bari Imam, Bhara Kahu Bazaar, Thal, Mera Bagwal, Sari Chowk, Phul Garan, and Simly Dam road.
