LAHORE

Punjab Assembly on Monday expressed complete trust in the sagacious leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif amid boycott from Opposition.

Opposition boycotted the PA proceedings after it wasn’t allowed by Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal Khan to table resolution demanding resignation from Prime Minister until he is cleared by the Joint Investigation Team formed to probe Panama scam.

After Opposition had staged a boycott, the PA Speaker allowed Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan to table an out-of-turn resolution reposing confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The resolution was moved and passed by the House amid pro-PM slogans.

The resolution stated “this August House expresses complete confidence in the active, effective and sagacious leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The House is pleased to express the fact that the leadership of Nawaz Sharif is a glittering ray of hope and faith to ensure development, prosperity and long-lasting solutions of the public problems.”

The resolution also paid rich tribute to the prime minister for his role in steering the country out of power crisis, ensure peace and eliminate terrorism from the country.

It also stated that the historic project of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which was capable of changing the destiny of nation would also be remembered with the name of Nawaz Sharif. It also voiced concern over the activities of elements conspiring to push the country towards anarchy, uncertainty and instability and pressed all political forces to focus on 2018 general elections so that the PML-N government could utilise its energy towards country’s welfare.

Earlier, Opposition led by its leader Mehmood-ul-Rasheed staged serious protest after its request to table resolution demanding resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif until he was cleared from the JIT was turned down. “How can an accused PM appear before the JIT, he has no moral grounds to remain in office and he must resign and clear himself from all the charges” said the Opposition leader while speaking on the floor of the House.

The Opposition leader stated that not a single judge of the Supreme Court had cleared Nawaz, two of them had even stated he wasn’t Sadiq and Amin, adding that he had no right to hold the office.

When the request of Opposition was turned down, its members stood up and started chanting anti-government slogans whereas as a tit for tat reply, the PML-N MPAs responded with the slogans of ‘Go Imran Go’ and the House plunged into complete disorder. The Opposition members kept chanting the slogans for nearly half an hour after which they announced staging boycott.

Later, the House was adjourned until Tuesday (today).
