Proposals for fixation of honorarium for UC councillors rejected

The Municipal Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) in his 12th session held on Thursday rejected recommendations of a committee regarding fixing honorarium for vice chairmen and councillors of union councils.

The Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz chaired the session during which committees constituted on issues of water shortage and honorarium also presented their reports.

Sardar Mehtab Khan, chairman of Union Council sector I-9 speaking on a point of order said in a situation when vice chairmen and councillors are staging protests against mayor and chairmen and using objectionable remarks against him, the recommendations could not be accepted. “We should not be black-mailed by them,” he said.

In response the, chairmen from the ruling party opposed recommendations, which were rejected. In the light of suggestions for more water resources, the session discussed revamping existing water sources to cope with water shortage issue in the Federal Capital.

The meeting discussed the construction of Chirrah Dam and Japan Dam in addition to the construction dam in Bhara Kahu area.  The meeting was informed that the water committee has taken consolidated steps for ensuring smooth water supply in rural and urban areas of the city. For this purpose, out of order tube wells and water tankers were made operational.

The houses also lauded the efforts of water committee for removing illegal water connections from the main water supply lines conducting water from Simly Dam and Khanpur Dam to the city.
