Five-day anti-polio drive starts
Rawalpindi: A five-day anti-polio campaign kicked off in the district as part of the National Immunization Drive to cover more than 800,000 children below five years of age, said District Health Officer Dr. Abdul Jabbar here on Monday.
The DHO informed that 2,189 polio teams, 209 medical officers, 448 area in charges and allied hospitals and Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals are participating in the drive.
Dr. Abdul Jabbar informed that along with mobile teams, 124 special transit camps have been established at different points of the district, adding children under five years are also being vaccinated at Islamabad Airport, Railways Stations, Bus Stops and Public bus stands in the city.
The areas where polio teams could not reach yet need to be identified and people may contact health department or health centres of their area, he said. The DHO advised parents to come forward and play their role to ensure vaccination of their children to eliminate the crippling disease.
