Two killed, eight injured in shootout

LAHORE

Two men were killed and eight others injured in a crossfire between two parties in the Sanda area on Sunday morning.

One of the victims was identified as Umar Naeem of Gulshan Ravi. The injured were identified as Iftikhar Shah, Akram, Jabber, Tahir Hussain, Nadim Akram, Dildar Hussain, Ahmad and Assad Shah. The members of Papu and Akram groups had opened firing on each other following an old enmity. As a result of which nine persons sustained wounds. They were taken to hospital where Umar was pronounced dead. The body has been shifted to morgue.  

POs arrested: Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) arrested 55 persons on different charges and seized drugs. PHP teams arrested 35 proclaimed offenders (POs), 12 drug peddlers and eight illicit arms carriers. They seized 114 litre liquor, 1,475 gram charas, seven pistols, one rifle and 75 bullets from their possession. PHP also reunited five children; Fida Hussain, Laiba Rani, Tayyab, Mustaqeem and Ali Haider, with their parents.

Security at churches: The Lahore CCPO visited various churches in the City on Sunday to check security arrangements on Easter. He announced a cash prize of Rs 50,000 for the Civil Lines SHO and his team for making good security arrangements. He also announced prizes for two security guards of two churches.  The CCPO visited the churches at Regal Chowk, The Mall, Abbot Road, Jail Road, Cantt, Model Town and Iqbal Town.  

OPC road show: With a view to sensitise the Pakistanis living in Italy about the functioning of Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC),Punjab, and institutional mechanism of redress of their complaints, the OPC organised a road show in Arci Benassi Hall, Bologna, Italy. According to a handout issued here on Sunday, OPC Vice-Chairperson Shaheen Khalid Butt, Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti, DG Javed Iqbql Bokhari and Pakistani Ambassador to Italy Nadeem Riaz addressed the participants of the road show. Around 500 Pakistanis living in Bologna and other adjoining cities of Italy participated in the event. They were informed that the OPC was playing a proactive role in redressing the grievances of overseas Pakistanis. They were told that they could contact OPC for the resolution of their problems any time.

The OPC officers said Azad Jammu and Kashmir government had also adopted the OPC Punjab model to address the problems of overseas Pakistanis. The OPC high-ups said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif personally monitored the performance of OPC and an IT-based system had been set up for online registration of complaints.\

A question-answer session was also held. Italy PML-N President Khalid Gondal, PPP President Zaman Khatana, PTI President Tajammal Butt, PAT President Sajid Mehmud,  Jamaat-e-Islami President Khalil Butt, Jamiat Ahl e Hadees President Abdul Razzaq, community leader Asif Raza and Bashar Ummra also spoke on the occasion.
