Court reserves order on plea for transfer of acid attack case
The Sindh High Court reserved its judgment on Friday on an application seeking the transfer of an acid-throwing case against a policeman from an anti-terrorism court to a sessions court.
Policeman Zeeshan, along with an accomplice, were booked by the Mobina Town police for throwing acid on his ex-fiancé, the girl’s brother and a seven-month-old nephew after the girl’s family turned down his marriage proposal.
According to the prosecution, Zeeshan threw acid on Raheela, her brother Jan Mohammad and nephew Hadi in the Metroville area Gulshan-e-Iqbal in July last year.
The applicant’s counsel claimed that his client was falsely implicated in the case and requested transfer of the trial from an anti-terrorism court to a sessions court, arguing that the offence did not fall within the ambit of the anti-terrorism law.
However, the counsel for the complainant opposed the request, submitting that accused had taken revenge from the girl by throwing acid on her after her family refused to accept his proposal. He said the minor nephew and the brother of the girl were also injured in the attack. He requested the court to dismiss the plea.
After hearing the arguments of the counsel, the court observed that throwing acid on the innocent minor and the girl was a barbaric act and reserved its order.
